Development for "Sherlock 3" is officially underway with the writers' room for the long-awaited threequel finally settled in.

Variety reports that an impressive team of five writers has been tapped to put together the next adventure of Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes.

Nicole Perlman, whose best known for his work in "Guardians of the Galaxy" and the upcoming film "Captain Marvel" is part of the team, along with Gary Whitta, who worked on the highly-anticipated "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."

The "Sherlock 3" writing team also includes "Baywatch" writer Justin Malen, Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who penned "Tomb Raider," and Kieran Fitzgerald, the person behind the "Snowden" script.

This excellent bunch will put their heads together for what is imagined as an amazing "Sherlock 3" story. As per Variety, a writers' room being put together for a film, which is not an often sight to see, is for the purpose of avoiding rewriting work.

James Coyne, who was hired early this year to rewrite for the project, is not mentioned. There is no news with regards to his status in "Sherlock 3."

Downey first mentioned the movie's development back in May, where he said that they would film this year. "It really is a big deal to go and do those movies," the actor told ShortList that time.

"When we're making those Sherlock movies it is off the hook. [So] we'll attempt to make one this year," the "Iron Man" actor went on to say.

A month later, Joel Silver, one of the producers for the "Sherlock" films and for "Sherlock 3" as well, then confirmed the project is moving along as soon as possible.

"He's gotta launch into another Avengers movie, right after the New Year, so we're trying to get it done," he told Collider.

A release date for "Sherlock 3" is not in place yet, with the development still in its early stages. What's sure is that Jude Law will return as Sherlock's right-hand man, John Watson, and that Guy Ritchie will be back in the director's seat.
