'Resident Evil: The Final Chapter' latest update from Milla Jovovich

Milla Jovovich in Resident Evil: Retribution Screen Gems

Actress Milla Jovovich has taken to Instagram to give an official update on "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter." The update reveals Jovovich getting a face-cast for the film and she confirms that she is heading to South Africa to begin preparations for the movie.

"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" is touted as the final film in the long-running series based on the video games of the same name. It sees the bio-engineered superhuman Alice, portrayed by Jovovich, fighting against the Umbrella Corporation and the army of zombies that have taken over the world.

The film will be helmed by Jovovich's husband, Paul W.S. Anderson, who also directed every "Resident Evil" film save for "Resident Evil: Apocalypse" and "Resident Evil: Extinction," which are the second and third films, respectively.

Production of the film was originally scheduled to begin in August 2014 but this was delayed due to Jovovich's pregnancy. This first update confirms that the film is still moving forward but it isn't clear if the studios are retaining the Sept. 2, 2016 release date because of the delays.

According to a report from Collider, keeping the said release schedule would keep true to the tradition of the franchise since each one except for the very first film was released in September. The release window seems to be quite effective for the franchise, given that the five films have a collective budget of $250 million but have managed to gain a global gross revenue of $915.9 million.

If they do move the release date, the report speculates it will be placed in April 2017 given that the first film was also released in April back in 2002.

"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" is the sixth film in the franchise and will also see the return of Wentworth Miller as Chris Redfield, and Li Bingbing as Ada Wong. It is unconfirmed if Ali Larter and Sienna Guillory would reprise their roles as Claire Redfield and Jill Valentine, respectively.
