PlayStation VR has released images showing what the processing box looks like, revealing a design that sports what seems to be a miniature size of the PlayStation 4. It was rumoured that with the power that Sony aims to deliver with their virtual reality experience that the company would need to create a separate processor.
According to VR Focus, the processing box looks like a smaller version of the Playstation 4. The processing box will apparently be equipped with an output and input for HDMI cords, a power socket and a USB socket. The photo also shows microphone controls on the cord connecting the headset to the processing box.
It was previously reported that the PS VR's box would be at least the size of the Nintendo Wii. But according to Eurogamer, the processing box is much smaller than that, measuring only 140×140×35mm compared to the dimensions of the Wii which measure 215×157×44mm.
Another device enabling virtual reality to be launched in 2016 is the HTC Vive, which is being created by HTC in partnership with Valve who are the creators behind "Half Life." According to Vive's official website, the VR headset is scheduled to have a demo in the upcoming CES 2016 that will be happening on Jan. 6 to 9.
The HTC Vive is expected to sport a 1080 x 1200 pixel resolution split between both eyes and a 90 Hz refresh rate. The Sony PlayStation VR is reported to have a lower 960 x 1080 pixel resolution, but a much higher 120 Hz refresh rate thus the need for a separate processing box.
The PlayStation VR headset already has some titles lined up for the launch including games such as "Job Simulator," "Ace Combat 7" and "Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin." VR Focus adds that the PlayStation VR is still scheduled to launch by the first half of 2016.
