'Pirates of the Caribbean 5' plot: Will Turner helping Jack Sparrow find the Trident of Poseidon

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Disney

After the official announcement during this year's D23 Expo that Orlando Bloom will be reprising his role as Will Turner in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales," it has been speculated that the character's powers as the captain of the Flying Dutchmen will play a part in the film's over-all plot which will see Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) going up against Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem) and his crew of ghostly pirates.

The film's official plot states that Salazar has finally escaped the Devil's Triangle aka the Bermuda Triangle and is determined to kill every pirate on the planet, including Jack Sparrow. The only way for Sparrow to defeat him is by finding the Trident of Poseidon which grants its possessor complete control over the seas.

Given that Will has essentially become the "new" Davy Jones, he has powers that can help scour every corner of the oceans. This power was first seen when Davy Jones (Bill Nighy) used it to search the seas for the exact location of Jack Sparrow and his ship, the Black Pearl, in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest."

There is also a rumored sub-plot of Will reconnecting with his now-adult son. Actor Brenton Thwaites is playing a character named Henry, which many fans believe to be Will's son. This theory was further put to the spotlight when Thwaites stated that the fifth film will see his character trying to connect with his father who became Davy Jones.

This sub-plot has not been confirmed nor denied so at this point, it should still be treated as a rumor. However, Turner's role in the film is almost guaranteed to play a part in the search for the Trident since he is also the ferryman of the dead, indicating that he will be responsible for bringing Captain Salazar and his undead crew over to the other side.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" opens on July 7, 2017.
