Reportedly, the upcoming season of "Person of Interest" will bring the series to a close. However, some fans aren't keen on the idea and are currently petitioning for the producers to continue on with a season 6 run.
According to IB Times, an online petition for the show to continue is currently ongoing on Change.org. The petitioners want the show to continue, as it reportedly represents real-life concerns such as mental disorders and issues with the LGBT community.
Talks of season 5 being the series ender for "Person of Interest" began when CBS outlined its upcoming schedule for the midseason, and the series was not included. In addition, the upcoming season 5 only has 13 episodes listed, instead of the 22-episode run in previous seasons.
Recently, TV Line added to the rumor by quoting executive producer J.J. Abrams. The EP reportedly stated during the winter press tour of the Television Critics Association that in his opinion, the upcoming season looks to be the last run for the series. Abrams stated, "My guess is [Season 5] is the final season."
Abrams added that should his guess be true, it will be disappointing to not see what could've happened to the rest of the story. The executive producer said, "The only heartbreak there is how much good story there was to come if it were to have continued."
While it is unclear how the story will unfold for season 5 of "Person of Interest," observers have said that it will likely deal with the struggles of the characters as they continue to fight the Samaritan. Main protagonist John Reese will struggle through his breakup with Detective Carter. Meanwhile, Harold Finch will also have a hard time adjusting as he realizes that he depends on the Machine too much, maybe even becoming emotionally attached to it.
