Paramount Pictures and Hasbro have enjoyed big success with the "Transformers" films, and according to the Hollywood Reporter the film studio and toy company are once again uniting to create an even bigger cinematic universe, this time involving other Hasbro properties such as "G.I. Joe."
According to the report, Hasbro's Allspark Productions and Paramount Pictures will launch a new cinematic universe that includes "G.I. Joe," "Micronauts," "ROM the Spaceknight," "Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light" and "M.A.S.K."
"Hasbro and Allspark Pictures put storytelling at the center of everything that we do," explained Hasbro president and CEO Brian Goldner. "These brands are filled with memorable stories and vivid characters, and this universe creates a framework for how they will become interconnected."
This will be the first time each property will be directly connected to the other. The two previous "G.I. Joe" films are not even tied to the "Transformers" films despite being from the same production companies. It is likely that the new cinematic universe will begin with a reboot of the "G.I. Joe" franchise in order to get a fresh new start.
As stated in a report from Screen Rant, both "G.I. Joe" films are considered as both financial and critical flops. A "Micronauts" film has also been in development for some time but the project has never been able to move forward until now.
It is also pointed out that Paramount Pictures is clearly trying to build its own cinematic universe. It first started by builing a cinematic universe surrounding the upcoming "Transformer 5" film and its spin-offs and now trying to apply the same approach with other Hasbro properties.
However, not all cinematic universes turn out to be wild success stories and it is likely that if the new films formed from this partnership do not sit well with consumers and critics, it is likely future projects will come to a halt.
