'Overwatch' DLC release date news, rumors: announcement on additional characters coming at Blizzcon

Overwatch Halloween Terror DLC Blizzard

Expect something big from Blizzard Entertainment at the Blizzcon event on Nov. 4. If rumors prove correct, the studio is cooking up something special for its multiplayer first-person shooter video game "Overwatch."

According to a report by Christian Times, the studio may be working on additional playable characters to be released as downloadable content (DLC) so gamers can have access to more playable characters.

Fans are hoping that the new character may have something to do with the new hero game director Jeff Kaplan earlier teased about. Kaplan said that they are already far along with the character and that it is already being play tested across the company.

"We believe this hero will see the light of day sooner rather than later," he said. Kaplan added that the team is also working on new maps in various stages so players will have a lot to look forward to when it releases.

While no information has been officially announced about the character, it has been reported by iTechPost that the charater could be a fighter named Sombra.

The character is described as a Latina woman whose distinctive features include a unique hairstyle and outfit as she sports a warrior suit covered in a purple trench coat. Her weapon of choice is a submachine gun, which hints that the character is not someone to take lightly.

There are also rumors that Athena could be included in the line up of playable characters in the DLC.

For the meantime, Blizzard are making sure that fans of the game are happy with an event called "Halloween Terror," wherein the studio will give out loot boxes containing special items that could be helpful for each character.

"Halloween loot boxes will be made available until Nov. 1, offering players more than 100 Halloween items including skins, sprays, highlight intros, victory poses, player icons, voice lines and, of course, credits," the Xbox store listing indicated.
