"Outlander" season 2 producer Matthew B. Roberts recently posted via Twitter that production on the season's final two episodes have begun. However, Starz has yet to announce who is set to portray the character Brianna, a pivotal character in the second season. Instead of announcing who plays Brianna, Roberts continues to tease the fans.
Roberts's latest Twitter post showcases actor Sam Heughan and the show's executive producer Maril Davis posing in a mock arm wrestling match where the latter appears to be having no difficulty against Heughan. Actor Graham McTavish, who portrays Dougal MacKenzie in the series, also appears in the photo as the match's officiator.
The photo's caption teases that the winner of the match would be the one to portray Brianna a.k.a. Bree. Of course, this is merely the producers and cast posting a friendly joke but it also points out one fact that the fans will have to grasp: The casting of Brianna is a tightly kept secret and it is likely her casting will not be announed anytime soon.
It is likely that Brianna's casting will not be announced until the second season premieres since the studios are more inclined to announce who will play the character by putting the spotlight on her in a new trailer. At this point, however, the promo trailers for "Outlander" season 2 focus mainly on Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and the new location.
Fans speculate that Brianna's casting has been kept a secret due to the fact that Starz may have hired a big-name actress to play the role. Brianna also plays a significant role in the story and showing her in the trailers may spoil key events in season 2, in particularly if Starz decides to alter the story and change Brianna's plotline to surprise book fans.
No official premiere date has been announced but "Outlander" season 2 is expected to premiere this April.
