During the weeks leading to the OnePlus 2's big reveal last July 27 via a Virtual Reality launch event, OnePlus built a massive hype around the handset, which certainly yielded the results they were hoping for.

According to a report by Sunday Express, in just 72 hours, more than one and a half million buyers already registered for the OnePlus 2 invites so they would be able to get their hands on the self-titled flagship killer. The signup for invites is still ongoing and fans of the tech firm continue to try to secure a OnePlus 2 unit for themselves. The company sold 1.5 million OnePlus One units previously, but the OnePlus 2 did not break a sweat to top that.

The OnePlus 2 will start to hit the markets on Aug. 11. However, only the 64 GB version of the device will initially go on sale in the U.S., Canada as well as in India, China and other select European regions. Those interested in purchasing the standard 16 GB version of the handset will have to wait until later in the year.

The 16 GB model of the OnePlus 2 costs $329. Upgrading to 64 GB requires $60 more. The flagship is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor v2.1 and has 4 GB of LPPDR4 RAM. It also boasts a 13 MP rear-facing shooter and a 5 MP snapper on the front. It also has a fingerprint scanner, which OnePlus claims is faster than Apple's Touch ID.

In addition, the OnePlus 2 also has Android 5.0 Lollipop straight out of the box, juxtaposed with OnePlus' very own OxygenOS 2.0, which introduces features the Google software doesn't have. An example of these features is the Alert Slider, which allows users to easily switch between notification settings that either show all notifications, just the important ones, or none at all.

The handset comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p display and has magnesium/ aluminum alloy for its chassis. There are various casing designs to choose from including bamboo, rosewood, Apricot wood, Kevlar, and sandstone.
