'Once Upon a Time' season 5 plot, characters: Dark, almost sociopathic Emma Swan to be featured

Dark Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) in Once Upon a Time season 5 ABC

"Once Upon a Time" season 5 is still underway and won't premiere until this fall but ABC has already released the titles of the first two episodes, "Dark Swan" and "The Price." According to a report from the IBTimes, the titles give a big hint on what's to come.

"Dark Swan" is an obvious reference to Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) as she is now being consumed by the Darkness after she sacrificed herself to save Regina (Lara Parrilla).

According to a report from Enstarz, the character is now free "in the darkest way you can imagine." Morrison described her character as "completely selfish and completely free of her responsibility" and, at the same time, "almost sociopathic in a way."

"Free" is the term that Morrison used to describe Dark Swan because now, the character no longer has to worry about saving other people or about being strong since she was often the one that the companions looked up to. She is no longer weighed down by the duty of doing the right thing.

"The Price," meanwhile, might be hinting at what the costs might be to bring Emma back from the darkness. According to the IBTimes, this could refer to either Henry (Jared S. Gilmore) paying the price if he attempts to change their fate now that he is the Author, or Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) trying to save Emma, no matter the consequences.

This might lead to Hook becoming a villain once again or it could mean something else entirely. It does paint the picture that whatever the good guys need to save Emma may be introduced in episode 2, and it will likely be found only in Camelot, which is the setting for season 5. They might need Merlin's (Elliot Knight) help in finding it.

"Once Upon a Time" season 5 premieres this Sept. 27.
