The Nintendo NX is set to replace the Nintendo Wii U and has finally been confirmed to launch worldwide by March 2017. As stated in a report from IGN, the information was released via Nintendo's latest financial report for the current fiscal year, revealing their plans for the Nintendo NX.
"For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed 'NX' with a brand-new concept," explains Nintendo in their report. "NX will be launched in March 2017 globally."
Unfortunately, the report also makes it clear that Nintendo will not be presenting the NX during this year's E3. Despite this, Nintendo is speculated to host their own event and several Nintendo Direct presentations to reveal the NX to the public. IGN reports that a special presentation will be held before the end of the year to showcase the NX.
According to a report from Polygon, Nintendo's plans for E3 will instead focus primarily on the new "Legend of Zelda" game which has also been confirmed to release for the Wii-U and NX simultaneously, which also means the "Zelda" title will be delayed yet again by one more year to launch with the NX.
A playable demo will be on the floor during this year's E3 event, however, which will keep consumer interest in the game high and build anticipation for the Nintendo NX. It is noted that the new "Zelda" game was first revealed as far back as 2014 and was initially slated for a late 2016 release.
It is also noted that the NX is still a codename, although there are no indications yet regarding what the console's name is and when the company may reveal what it will finally be called when it is released. Nintendo has also made it a point to keep the console's design, controller design, and full line-up of titles a secret at this point in time.
