Nexus 5 2015 release date: Device's rear casing leaked

The first version of Nexus 5 from LG Electronics Google website

The Nexus 5 2015 is said to be Google's improved version of its highly popular smartphone, the LG Nexus 5 2013. Just recently, images of the rumored handset's rear casing were leaked by adamant tech tipster Nowhereelse.fr and thanks to these pictures, new details have emerged regarding the device's camera and design layout.

As shown in the photos, there are three holes on the casing. The first circular one is expected to be the cutout for the primary camera of the Nexus 5 2015 while the square-shaped hole to its right will most likely be the space for the shooter's flash. The other round hole is reportedly for a fingerprint sensor.

Google is rumored to add such biometric functionality to their new Nexus handsets, particularly the Nexus 5 2015, which is why media outlets are convinced this is what the hole is for. If it isn't, then it will likely be a cutout for another part of the camera although it is unknown what it will be for.

The leaked images also show that the physical button will be placed on the right hand-side (left on the photo) just above the volume rocker. The 3.5 mm earphone jack will be on the top of the device while the charging port and the speaker will be located on the bottom.

It is difficult to identify with the photos whether or not the Nexus 5 2015 will get a USB Type-C port, although as a reboot to the Nexus 5, it is expected it will don the reversible connector.

As for the overall form factor of the smartphone, the casing hints that it will be rounded. BGR points out it is a major departure from the design of the original Nexus 5.

The rest of the specs sheet, according to reports, include a 5.2-inch display (1440 x 2560 pixel resolution), a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, and a 2700 mAh battery. LG is reportedly working on it and has codenamed it Bullhead. There's also word that there's another Nexus 5 2015 variant being manufactured by Huawei.
