The New York Knicks are one of the most active teams in free agency and are looking to address their issue at the shooting guard position by trying to be "in the mix" for landing free agent Danny Green.

Green, 28, has spent his past five seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, whom he helped to two consecutive Finals appearances, including a championship in 2014.

Last season, the shooting guard played in 81 games and started in 80, recording his career-best averages of 11.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, two assists, 1.1 blocks and 1.2 steals per outing.

San Antonio finished with a 55-27 regular season record and made it to the playoffs but was eliminated by the Los Angeles Clippers in seven games during the first round.

Despite an early exit, Green staying with the Spurs is a "top choice" for him, according to SB Nation, but the Knicks are also on top of his list. The shooting guard is a native of New York, and joining the Knickerbockers is a possibility.

New York needs a Danny Green in their roster as they only have three guards signed as of the moment, with veteran Jose Calderon, second-year player Langston Galloway and 2015 first-round pick Jerian Grant, ESPN reported. Green is one of the best shooters in the league today and is also a good defender.

The Knicks have also expressed interest in shooting guards Arron Afflalo and Wesley Matthews. who are also free agents. ESPN's Chris Broussard said Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony reached out to Afflalo while the Knicks would be meeting with Matthews.

New York recently lost a guard in budding player Tim Hardaway Jr., who was traded to the Atlanta Hawks for the rights to acquire Jerian Grant. Knicks president Phil Jackson believes Grant has the "attributes" he was looking for in a guard.
