The New Orleans Pelicans find themselves at the bottom of the Western Conference early in the season, but it's not really that surprising considering how much this franchise has been playing without a decent lineup. The team is bannered by Anthony Davis, a young big man who arguably will become the best player in the league once the LeBron James era ends sooner or later. But as history tells, basketball is not a one-man show.
At 2–10, the Pelicans own victories over the Milwaukee Bucks and the Boston Celtics; two teams that are never considered as cellar dwellers. Nonetheless, in all the 10 losses early in the season, it looks more like the 23-year-old Davis is getting frustrated with the lack of support, especially with starting two-guard Tyreke Evans still out with an injury. So does this mean it's time for Davis to demand a trade from his team, more like how superstars of the not-so-old days forced franchises to pull the plug?
A Forbes report published a couple of days back talked about the spiciest trade rumors in the league, particularly those involving superstars like Klay Thompson, DeMarcus Cousins, and Davis. At the last part of the article, it was mentioned that Davis' most ideal destination should there be any prospect of a trade is Boston, considering how the Celtics look very desperate in adding a rebounding monster to play alongside Al Horford in the frontcourt.
Well, it's definitely a long shot but the thought of having both Davis and Horford in the starting lineup for a brilliant mind in coach Brad Stevens, along with a spitfire guard in Isaiah Thomas, is just too exciting not to drool over. Obviously, Boston's general manager Danny Ainge would love to trade for Davis, as every single NBA executive would, too. The problem is this: Is Davis really desperate enough, at this very young season and at his very young age, to ask for a trade? It's hard to tell readers, but if losses keep piling up, every basketball superstar, young or old, would want to play somewhere else; somewhere where winning is part of the basketball culture.
