Microsoft Surface Phone release date, specs: CEO talks about making 'ultimate mobile device' a reality

Even though Apple and Samsung still hold the distinction of developing the next big thing in the mobile device industry next year, there's one name trying to leave an indelible mark to this particular segment of technology manufacturing — Microsoft. And yes, the company that took Nokia's Lumia range of smartphones in the hope of reviving it (but failed miserably), will try to make another attempt at getting a share of the pie by introducing the Microsoft Surface Phone.

In a recent interview with the Australian Financial Review, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella talked about the American tech giant's objective of finally building that ultimate mobile device.

"We will continue to be in the phone market not as defined by today's market leaders, but by what it is that we can uniquely do in what is the most ultimate mobile device," Nadella said.

So is he really referring to the upcoming Surface Phone? Well, the words "phone market" and "ultimate mobile device" point to the same thing — a cellular capable handset that Microsoft is building, and as far as rumors and speculations are concerned, there is no other smartphone Microsoft is rumored to be building at this point, which means he was probably talking about the Surface Phone.

According to The Next Web, it will really be a tough challenge for the American software giant to deliver a phone with the hope of competing with the leaders. Nonetheless, there is nothing wrong in believing that finally, something new will be introduced in the market next year. The rumored phone is said to be a monster of a device when it comes to hardware and could even be running Microsoft's latest Windows 10 mobile operating system with the Redstone 2 update.

Well, Nadella's statement certainly points to the Surface Phone and there's very little doubt about it considering that there's no other mobile device being talked about right now. So if the Surface Phone is indeed set to become the "ultimate mobile device," what's the guarantee that it won't be just like the previous Windows-powered Lumia phones the same company built?
