In line with the 30th anniversary of the "Super Mario" video game series, Nintendo will release an 8-bit Mario amiibo to add to the growing line of collectible items for the game's die-hard fans.
The 8-bit amiibo, which will come alongside a variety of "Super Mario Maker" special editions, was first announced by Nintendo of Europe through its Twitter account.
The tweet revealed that the upcoming toy figure will come in two variants. One will feature the same color as the character from the first ever "Super Mario Bros." game, which is mostly reds and browns. The other one uses the same costume color of Mario in the recent installments of the game.
The two versions of special edition 8-bit Mario amiibo will be released on separate dates. The figurine showing the classic Mario colors will come out on Sept. 11, while the other one with the usual Mario colors will be released on Oct. 23.
These amiibo figures can be purchased separately on their respective release dates, or Super Mario fans can opt to buy the classic colored-toy figure together with the other contents of the new Wii U Premium Pack. These include a black Premium 32 GB console unit, a disc copy of "Super Mario Maker," and a hardcover artbook. They can also choose the "Super Mario Maker Limited Edition" pack that will be released with the upcoming game's physical copy and the beautiful artbook. The bundles will come out in Europe on Sept. 11 and in Australia on Sept. 12.
"Super Mario Maker" is the highly anticipated game that will allow players to customize their favorite Mario installments, including the "Super Mario Bros.," "Super Mario Bros. 3," "Super Mario World," and the latest "Super Mario Bros. U."
However, only those living in the specified countries will have the chance to purchase the "Super Mario Maker" bundles and the 8-bit Mario amiibo upon release, since Nintendo has yet to reveal if the items will also be made available in the U.S.
