Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool continue to stay busy this offseason just completing the transfer of young defender Joe Gomez from Charlton.

Gomez's transfer is worth £3.5 million and he is the fourth signing for the Reds this offseason following Manchester United midfielder James Milner, Burnley striker Danny Ings and Bolton goalkeeper Ádám Bogdán who will all join the club on July 1.

"It's a dream come true. It's a bit surreal and it hasn't really hit me yet. But I'm buzzing and just excited to get started," Gomez told the club website.

The defender, who just turned 18 last month, also told the website that he wanted to be with Liverpool for some time now.

"I've known for a little while now and I've wanted to come here for a while as well. But as it has become more of a reality over the past few days and weeks, I've just been buzzing. I just wanted it to get done," Gomez stated.

Gomez also discussed the support he received from his family and how Liverpool's reputation as a club made the move an "easy decision."

As he told Liverpool's website, "All the close people around me - my mum, my dad, brothers and sisters and all my family - have been really supportive. They knew I really wanted to come here and they have backed me all the way. So it was an easy decision."

"The club has got great history and it's a great club, and one that I've always been following from when I was young. The style of football and the top players here was somewhere that I wanted to go and get better and learn, and play good football. It was an easy decision," he also said.

Gomez has been with Charlton since he was 10 years old and expressed his gratitude to the club.

"The club have always looked after me and I will always be grateful. I'm excited for the new challenge at Liverpool and it's an opportunity that I've only been given thanks to the experience that Charlton have given me," Gomez stated.

He added that his goals with Liverpool are to compete for a spot and debut as soon as possible aiming to be a key piece for the club and "win trophies."
