"Legends of Tomorrow," the official spin-off series stemming from both "Arrow" and "The Flash," is already filled to the brim with characters such as White Canary (Caity Lotz) and Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller). In a new interview, executive producer Marc Guggenheim confirmed that Jonah Hex will also make an appearance.
"Legends of Tomorrow" is all about the group of heroes traveling through time and different dimensions. Speaking to Variety, Guggenheim stated that during the back half of season 1 the team will be traveling to the Old West. It will be during this time period that they come across one of DC Comics few Old West heroes.
"Ever since we decided that 'Legends' would involve time travel, we were eager to do a story set in the Old West," he explained. "But if you're going to do a story set in the DC Universe version of the Old West, you simply must include Jonah Hex in it. We're thrilled about bringing another well known, beloved DC character to television."
It was also confirmed that at the time being the role has yet to be cast but Jonah Hex is already set to appear in episode 11. There is also the possibility of Jonah Hex appearing again, possibly being promoted as a recurring guest character in the series.
Jonah Hex, a moral bounty hunter marred with facial scars, was introduced to DC Comics in the 1970s as a creation of writer John Albano and his design was done by artist Tony DeZuniga. While other Western comics faded out of popularity, Jonah Hex has managed to remain revelant alongside other niche DC heroes such as Constantine.
A film adaptation was released in 2010, starring Josh Brolin in the titular role, but failed in terms of both box office returns and with critics. A short animated film was also released with Thomas Jane voicing the character.
"Legends of Tomorrow" premieres this Jan. 21.
