iPhone 8 release date, specs rumors: new leak reveals three variants for Apple flagship

One of the most-talked-about device range in all of the internet is the Apple iPhone, and every single time news comes out of an upcoming model change, there will always be an abundance of rumors and speculations about what could it bring, changes compared to its predecessor, specifications, and what it might look like. But no one out there brings more accuracy and reliability when it comes to iPhone leaks than KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, and he is at it again, this time bringing with him information on the iPhone 8 that no one really saw coming.

A research note by Kuo was revealed by MacRumors containing that Apple is making a major design change for the upcoming iPhone 8, where there will be three variants to be unveiled, including one with an OLED display and two with TFT-LCD screens. While the decision to finally incorporate OLED technology is no longer a big surprise considering how frequently it is being discussed right now, the news that one of the TFT-LCD models will come with a 5.5-inch screen is the more intriguing one since it means that the prospect of having two variants with screen sizes of at least 5.5 inches may actually be true after all. It can be recalled that Kuo also theorized that the OLED display variant may be combined with a 5.8-inch screen, which if true, will make it the biggest iPhone yet.

This development points to one obvious trend; that Apple finally realized it is about time to jump on the bandwagon comprised of competing smartphone brands that focus on exclusively building large-sized devices. Well, the retention of the traditional 4.7-inch model still gives those who don't want to use their two hands a familiar option. The only possible downside for the smaller screen iPhone 8 is that it won't come with a dual camera setup that's expected to be equipped in the other two.
