2 April - IGN has been known for launching trailers for movies or series that don't really exist. The site made a trailer for a live-action "The Legend of Zelda" movie that didn't really exist back in 2008 and the company did it again with a trailer for a supposdely live-action "Star Wars" series that would launch on Netflix titled "Star Wars: Fury of Maul."
According to a report from Yahoo Movies, the trailer has been proven fake as Netflix has not made any announcements or advertisements of their own and the trailer does not appear on any Netflix web pages. The trailer itself also has no original dialogue, taking dialogue entirely from the feature films, notably a few lines from "The Force Awakens" and "The Phantom Menace."
The trailer does a very good job to be quite convincing, with its high quality production that stumbles only in a few rough patches. While no major story has been attached to the faux pas trailer, it is indicated that the main character, the villain Darth Maul, is going on a murdering rampage inspired by that of "John Wick."
Scenes start out with what appears to be a Mandalorian soldier fighting Darth Maul as he approaches, clad in a dark cloak. The trailer then cuts to Maul approaching a Jedi staring out a window into open space, hinting they are in a spaceship. Maul is then shown killing the Mandalorian with his lightsaber before battling the unidentified Jedi.
While many "Star Wars" fan films have risen to popularity this is the first one with such high production values and is a reminder of how dedicated IGN can be with their April Fool's pranks.
However, Netflix has been rumored for some time to be working on a live-action "Star Wars" series. Back whe George Lucas was handling the franchise there was a series about a group of bounty hunters being developed but this was eventually dropped when Disney purchased Lucasfilms.
