'House of Cards' season 4 release date, spoilers; Claire Underwood to run for President?

House of Cards Netflix

"House of Cards" is officially moving forward with season 4. Netflix confirmed the show's renewal and production for the next season will commence come summer with a scheduled release of 2016. Both Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright will return as President Frank Underwood and his wife respectively.

The official Twitter account for "House of Cards" unveiled season 4 with the post "I will leave a legacy. #Underwood2016" and was accompanied by a photo that read "SEASON 4 COMING 2016."

No official premiere date has been announced but speculations from fans suggest that the first episode may air on March 11, 2016 given the pattern of release for the previous seasons. March 11, 2016 is also the date that the Confederate States Constitution was adopted, giving more weight to the show's themes and nature of its characters.

Season 3 ended on a high note with Claire Underwood telling her husband that she was leaving him, right when he was gearing towards re-election. Not only would a divorce weaken his reputation and chances of remaining as President of the United States but it also enforced her statement that he, not her role, was enough to keep her satisfied.

Season 4 is most likely going to deal with the turmoils of their relationship and how they will have to handle with the public eye. It is also rumored that Claire may run for presidency, competing directly with her husband - or ex-husband, in case they do get a divorce in the premiere episode of the next season.

There is also the issue of Doug who might have killed Rachel by running her over with his van and then burying her in the make shift grave he intended to leave her in, vengeance for Rachel leaving him close to death during season 2.

"House of Cards" is a Netflix remake of the BBC original of the same name and is produced by David Fincher, Kevin Spacey, Joshua Donen, Beau Willimon, Eric Roth, Michael Dobbs, Dana Brunetti, and Andrew Davies.
