'Han Solo' release date, news: Spin-off film will have a 'heist or Western type feel'

The "Han Solo" spin-off film won't be coming out for a while, but a lot of details have already been revealed. The film doesn't even have an official name yet, but rumors about the plot have been circulating online. But it doesn't really take a genius to guess that the Millennium Falcon is going to be involved.

In an interview with Variety, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy had more to share and she said the film was going to have a "heist or Western type feel."

"We've talked about [Frederic] Remington and those primary colors that are used in his paintings defining the look and feel of the film," she added. Remington happens to be a painter, illustrator, and sculptor of the Old American West.

It looks like directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are really going to try something different with the "Han Solo" spin-off film. In an interview with Collider last month, cinematographer Bradford Young said the directing duo was planning to break some rules and bring their own unique vision to the film. It sounds like the studio is backing them every step of the way.

Well, the Han Solo played by Harrison Ford does act like one of those cowboys in the Wild West. He's the type of guy who will shoot first, and ask questions later. Greedo (Paul Blake) will surely agree with that assessment if he's still alive.

With Alden Ehrenreich portraying the young scruffy-looking nerf herder for this film, and Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover) also in the mix, fans can expect them to be up to no good. They are smugglers after all. These are not the typical heroes.

Chewbacca is also going to appear in the film, and "Game of Thrones" star Emilia Clarke has joined the cast for an undisclosed role.

The "Han Solo" spin-off movie is set to premiere on May 25, 2018.
