'Grand Theft Auto VI' news: Game reportedly already beginning production

GTA V, the current game in the series Rockstar Games

"Grand Theft Auto V" has been out for three years now and fans have been waiting for any sort of news regarding the next main entry in the franchise. According to a report from Tech Radar, developers Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive may have already begun working on "Grand Theft Auto VI."

The report points out that the preliminary work for "GTA VI" has already begun but the studio has not yet decided on the game's setting yet. This may be an indication that the developers are still working on a new game engine and may be working on new gameplay mechanics that may or not be implemented in the final version of the game.

With the game at such an early phase, it is likely that the main story and controllable characters may not have yet been finished.

According to the report, the studios have also played with the idea of setting the series in Tokyo and have even spent time visiting Japan to better survey the areas in order to properly implement them in their games. However, this idea was eventually dropped and one of the reasons cited was due to Japan's roads where drivers are on the left side instead of the right.

However, Rockstar Games has yet to make any official announcement regarding the existence of "Grand Theft Auto VI" but it is likely that as the new game gets deeper into development a few teasers may be released within the year. The publisher may release a teaser trailer by the end of the year or by early 2017.

Unfortunately, no other details regarding the new game have been released. Fans have speculated that it may have built-in integration with VR technology but at the moment Rockstar Games has shown no interest in the peripheral. A fan-made mod of "GTA V" does exist and this allows the game to be played with a VR headset.
