'Gotham' season 2 spoilers: Clayface set to terrorize Gotham City

Basil Karlo aka Clayface DC Comics

"Gotham" season 2 has already introduced a wide variety of villains such as Doctor Hugo Strange (BD Wong) and Mr. Freeze (Nathan Darrow), but it has now been confirmed in a report from Comic Book that classic Batman villain Basil Karlo aka Clayface will be popping up in this season as well.

According to the report, actor Brian McManamon will be stepping in to portray the character, although it is not yet confirmed if he will simply be appearing as Karlo or if he will be undergoing the accident that turns him into the monstrous villain Clayface, a mud-like humanoid capable of shape-shifting.

McManamon has posted via Twitter a photo of him along with "Gotham" lead star Ben McKenzie. In the photo, McManamon is wearing what many assume to be a motion capture suit instead of a regular black outfit, hinting that he may indeed get to portray Karlo transforming into Clayface.

In the original "Detective Comics" and "Batman" comic books, Basil Karlo is recognized as a popular movie star who turns to a life of crime when he discovers the filmmakers recast the role he was set to play. Several years later and Karlo transforms into Clayface after taking samples of the victims he killed, injecting their essence into himself.

This origin is vastly altered in the popular "Batman: The Animated Series," where Clayface gains his monstrous form and powers after being drowned in a special facial cream that temporarily removes scars and other deformities. Due to the cream's natural capabilities, Clayface can now take on the shape and image of any person he meets.

McManamon is known for his performances in "Gossip Girl," "Project Beth" and "Connect with English."

Clayface's debut on "Gotham" is still undetermined but it is confirmed he will be appearing before the end of season 2.
