"The Good Wife" season 7 will prove challenging for Alicia. According to Christine Baranski, who plays Diane Lockhart in the series, Alicia will attempt to move on from the scandal that cut her state attorney stint short. She will now find a way to serve the law, which is something she always wanted to do.
Alicia's husband, Peter, will be running for president in the upcoming season, going head to head against Hillary Clinton. While she doesn't see herself taking the same path and she is pretty adamant about that, she is of two minds about so many other things.
"Alicia is, of course, not running for office, but having a great deal of ambivalence about having to be the wife of the man that's running," Baranski revealed to Deadline, mentioning the political scandal that "tainted" her reputation. "Now she's trying to get back to a more essential part of her being, which is just really loving the law. So it starts with her in bond court."
Alicia will establish her own law firm in season 7. As for the firm she was once part of, the "good old Lockhart Argos Lee," as Baranski addressed it, "has its share of internal turmoil, and Louis Canning [played by Michael J. Fox] is always lurking in the shadows, wreaking havoc."
It remains to be seen what sort of troubles Fox's character will bring although it was speculated that Canning will step up now that Alicia is in need of a new team.
In other related news, there will be a number of new faces in season 7. After the exit of Archie Panjabi and Matthew Goode, the legal drama has been bulking up its cast. Some fans hope that Robyn, played by Jess Weixler, will be back, too. However, while series co-creator Robert King told TV Line that he would love to do it, the problem lies with the actress' location — she's in L.A. while filming is in New York. Taking the trip to film every episode isn't very practical budget-wise, at least for the moment.
"The Good Wife" season 7 premieres Oct. 4.
