'Friends' reboot updates: Fake reunion news dupes many fans

Will there be a "Friends" reboot at all? Facebook/Friends

Many fans of the '90s sitcom "Friends" jubilated last weekend after "David Schwimmer" announced on his Twitter account that the popular show is coming back to TV. However, the jubilation eventually turned into disappointment after it was revealed that the said Twitter post belongs to a poser account.

With reboots of past popular TV shows becoming a trend, it is but understandable why many fans of "Friends" are hoping for the real Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt Leblanc, Courteney Cox, and Matthew Perry to reunite on the small screen once more and offer their own brand of comedy as they reprise their respective famed "Friends" roles.

After it was revealed that the Twitter post announcing the six original cast members had inked an agreement with NBC once more for another season of "Friends" is nothing more than a hoax, many fans, despite being disappointed, have expressed hope that a real announcement of a "Friends" reunion will happen soon. After all, NBC is reviving one of its past hit comedies, "Will and Grace."

"Friends" had a 10-season run over NBC. After it debuted on the network in September 1994, the sitcom aired its final episode in May 2004.

Meanwhile, according to Aniston, who portrayed the role of Rachel Green in the sitcom, if "Friends" were rebooted at this time and age, it would be a terrible thing to do as each of the cast members may not have speaking parts at all.

"We were jokingly saying that if 'Friends' was created today, you would have a coffee shop full of people that were just staring into iPhones. There would be no actual episodes or conversations," Aniston said during the inaugural episode of Arianna Huffington's new Thrive Global Podcast recently.

"This is a really interesting time to be asking questions and trying to figure out where do we go before we get too far down the wormhole that we just can't get ourselves out of," Aniston continued as she tried to talk about the disadvantages of today's technology.
