Robert Pattinson and FKA Twigs dating news: Twigs opens up about being in spotlight

FKA Twigs is making her mark in the music industry as one of the most unique performers in the business nowadays, but more often than not, many people still allude to her as Robert Pattinson's fiancée.

In an interview with the New York Times, the singer, whose real name is Tahliah Debrett Barnett, opened up about her upcoming, sold-out show, Congregata, and how her career has been affected by her relationship — and now engagement — to the "Twilight" actor.

"It's really hard — I can't begin to explain how awful it is," she said of the media and fan scrutiny of her relationship with Pattinson. "It makes you want to just stop everything sometimes. It makes you want to smash your face into the mirror."

The singer said that worst of all are the racial insults on social media, some of them from die-hard fans of her fiancé.

"There's no amount of songs I can sing or dances I can dance that will prove to them I'm not a monkey," she said.

One thing she is certain about, however, is that nothing, not even the constant scrutiny and negative comments, will get in the way of her creativity and performances.

She said, "Nothing can impale my work or make me choose not to say things a certain way or make an image I want."

Despite her negative feelings about the consequences of such a high-profile relationship, Barnett insisted that she is incredibly satisfied by her relationship with Pattinson.

"I didn't see my life going this way at all," she said. "But it's worth it. I'm so happy."

The two started dating in August 2014 before getting engaged earlier this year. Although the two have often been seen together, particularly at Barnett's performances wherein the actor is usually seen supporting the singer, the pair made their first public appearance as a couple at the 2015 Met Gala.
