"Five Nights at Freddy's," a point-and-click horror adventure game developed by Scott Cawthon that spawned two sequels, is getting a movie adaptation. According to reports, Warner Bros. just acquired the rights and both Roy Lee from Vertigo Entertainment and Seth Grahame-Smith of KatzSmith Productions will produce the movie.

Reports also state that Jon Berg and Nik Mavinkurve will be overseeing the project on behalf of Warner Bros. Jay Ireland and Adam Stone will serve as executive producers for the film.

No writers have yet been attached.

Vertigo Entertainment is known for producing "Run All Night" as well as the upcoming remake of "Poltergeist." KatzSmith Productions is also currently working on "Beetlejuice 2" which will see the return of Michael Keaton in the titular role.

The first "Five Nights at Freddy's" title is set in a family restaurant known as "Freddy Fazzbear's Pizza." Similar to how many child-centric fast food establishments utilize recognizable mascots, "Freddy Fazzbear's Pizza" features animatronic robots that entertain the customers during the day but go on rampant killing sprees at night.

The player is cast as the evening security guard and has to survive five nights in a row while ensuring that the animatronics do not leave the premises of the restaurant.

"The story really lends itself to being a movie and it taps into a largely unexplored niche of horror that a lot of people will be able to relate to," Cawthon stated in the report by THR.

Cawthon's statement was further supported by Grahame-Smith's follow-up, "We're looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie."

"Five Nights at Freddy's" was released for PC and mobile devices in 2014, followed by an immediate sequel in the same year. "Five Nights at Freddy's 3" was released in March, 2015 and is set thirty years after the events of the first two titles.
