The 1997 role-playing video game "Final Fantasy 7" will go down in history as one of the most commercially successful RPGs of all time. It's not just because it was the first in the "Final Fantasy" franchise to have 3D computer graphics, but also because it boosted Sony's PlayStation gaming console, introducing it as the industry's mainstream video gaming platform.

After almost two decades, game developer Square Enix announced during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in 2015 that the popular video game will be given a high-definition remake to be designed for Sony's current console, PlayStation 4. Unfortunately, though, a year after the announcement, Square Enix has yet to release the remastered version of "Final Fantasy 7," but there also is no information saying that the game isn't being developed.

A recent report quoted "Final Fantasy" brand manager Shinji Hashimoto as saying that a 2017 release date isn't true and that there still is no fixed or viable launch date to announce as of the moment. But Hashimoto was quick to add that the game is indeed being worked on.

Nonetheless, there still is no stopping rumors from consistently surfacing online, one of which is that the remake of "Final Fantasy 7" will feature several characters from the original game. It is believed that Vincent Valentine, Cid Highwind, and Aerith Gainsborough could be making their return to the upcoming video game.

Another rumor claims that the video game remake might be officially announced at the third PlayStation Experience event to be held at the Anaheim Convention Center in California next month. Well, it does make perfect sense for the game to be unveiled at a PlayStation event considering how crucial the original game was in increasing the popularity of the video game console back in the day.
