'Fast & Furious 8' cast rumors: Cody Walker, Kurt Russell, Eva Mendes to return?

Eva Mendes as Agent Monica Fuentes in Fast Five Universal

"Furious 7," the latest in "The Fast and the Furious" franchise, was a blockbuster success. It broke the records of its own predecessors and embedded itself into cinematic history. And due to this unbridled success, the roadster-centric film series will further expand with "Fast & Furious 8."

Details are fairly scanty about the flick. Fans only know the premiere date of the film and some possible details on the storyline. During the ComicCon in Las Vegas, Vin Diesel, who fans know as Dominic Toretto in the "Fast & Furious" movies, revealed that there will be an eighth film, which is set to be released on April 14, 2017.

It was also Diesel who suggested the possibility of Kurt Russell's character's return in the film. In "Furious 7," Mr. Nobody was one of the many problems of the Toretto gang although his role was only meant to be small. So it looks like the character would do bigger damage in the next movie just as the gang delves into the world of sly government officials.

With the government at the spotlight, another far more familiar face's rumored return makes sense. Eva Mendes, who showed up in "Fast" movies as Agent Fuentes, is rumored to make a comeback in "Fast & Furious 8." It is still unknown just how this could be done but it is, without doubt, exciting to see the special agent return to the world of exploding, jumping and parachuting cars.

Meanwhile, Cody Walker, who, together with brother Caleb, filled in for their late sibling Paul in his remaining scenes for "Furious 7," is also rumored to join the cast in the eighth movie. If Cody will not be Brian O'Connor, then he will be introduced as a completely new character.

Helmer Justin Lin, on the other hand, is expected to take the director's seat for the movie.
