The FOX musical drama "Empire" ended its first successful run with 17.6 million viewers tuning in to see the Lyon family's fate in the soap. Ultimately, the show made history by raking in the most viewership a new show earned in the past decade.

Now, the cult of fans look ahead to season 2 of the series. If there is one thing sure about it, "Empire" will be keeping its winning formula—stellar guest stars, nail-biting storylines and well, more powerhouse guest stars.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, "Empire" co-creator Lee Daniels revealed that the show reached out and tried to convince Oprah Winfrey to make an appearance in the hit series. However, it is still unclear if the media proprietor and talk show host nodded to the offer.

If Winfrey says no, "Empire" has a lot of choices to go for. Earlier reports claim that multi-instrumentalist rock icon Lenny Kravitz was approached to guest star in the sophomore run of the series. Needless to say, the singer-songwriter will be a perfect fit to the music-driven drama.

There is also buzz that suggests A-list actor Denzel Washington's participation in "Empire." However, this feat remains to be a product of a wishful fan's mind. But it is not like it would be impossible.

Music veteran Patti LaBelle, who already made an appearance in the series, is set to come back for another round. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the singer-actress revealed that she will be gracing the "Empire" set again.

As for the main cast of the series, "Empire" co-creator Danny Strong that things will get more complicated in the new season stemming to Lucious' pronouncement of his successor.

"Next season, we're still going to see some conflicts because of the decision. But this whole season was about who was going to inherit the empire and we felt like we needed to pay it off but it was also very logical under these circumstances," Strong told The Hollywood Reporter.

Also, with Lucious' fate still hanging in the balance, executive producer Ilene Chaiken promises that the story will unfold whether he is out in the open or behind bars.

"Lucious will always be central to the story no matter where he is. Beyond that, we're not there yet. We'll figure out whether Lucious is in or out of prison or in and out of prison, and how he will be integral to these storylines," Chaiken promised.

With season 2 coming off as a shocker, the "Empire" team is literally starting on figuring out what happens in the new run. "We only have vague notions for next season. I mean, we were just discussing it, and we're just starting to break the season right now," Strong said.

With that said, there is still no premiere date for "Empire" season 2 but reports claim that it will debut either in fall or next year.
