'Downton Abbey' season 6 spoilers : Lady Edith gets a date in episode 5

 PBS

"Downton Abbey" has already premiered in the UK and during the fourth episode the series saw the sudden return of Gwen (Rose Leslie), the former Crawley housemaid. Mr. Bates (Brendan Coyles) learned to his delight about Anna's (Joanne Froggatt) pregnancy. Episode 5 will see Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael) grab herself a date.

The official synopsis for the episode states that Lady Edith Crawley will have a date with Bertie Pelham (Harry Hadden-Paton) in London. During the previous episode she had to cancel their set date in order finish up work for her magazine. According to a report from Metro, this may be Lady Edith making up for that raincheck.

According to the synopsis, Denker (Sue Johnston) gets in trouble with Violet (Maggie Smith), forcing Spratt (Jeremy Swift) to help her get through this. However, the bigger deal in the upcoming episode is Mary Crawley (Michelle Dockery) sensing that a big family secret has been kept from her.

It is possible that this family secret will come to light in the next episode, transforming into a snowball of events that will continue to unravel until the show's end.

Season 6 may be the final season for "Downton Abbey" but series creator Gareth Neame did have a message for fans back in August in a report from GPB Blogs:

"And then I want you to take a month off, and then go right back to Season 1 and watch the whole thing again now that you have a sense of the whole story," he stated. "And I want you to love it for the rest of your life. And I want you to dip in and out of it every few years and remember it."

While there are talks for a movie, particularly because season 6 ends right before the 1929 stock market crash, no confirmations have been announced thus far. This means the season 6 Christmas special episode would be the official series ender.

"Downton Abbey" season 6 episode 5 airs in the UK this Oct. 18. The season will premiere in the US on PBS this January 2016.
