Dallas Mavericks forward Chandler Parsons is testing his recruiting skills on former teammate and Houston Rockets point guard Patrick Beverley who is set to be a restricted free agent this coming offseason.
Beverley will have the same fate as Parsons who also became a restricted free agent following the 2013-14 season and signed with the Mavericks after they offered him a deal which Houston did not try to match.
"I hear from Chandler every day. It's hard, but I try not to think about it. I can't talk about contracts," Beverley said regarding free agency according to the Houston Chronicle.
The 26-year-old playmaker was limited to only 56 games this season after sustaining a wrist injury against the Indiana Pacers on March 23 and was required to undergo surgery.
As a starter for head coach Kevin McHale, Beverley averaged 10.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.1 steals in 30.8 minutes of action per game.
He was replaced in the starting lineup by veteran point guard and former Maverick Jason Terry.
Despite Parsons' attempt of making Beverley transfer, the point guard wants to stay with Houston but understands that it all winds down to business.
"This is the only team in the league — I am very loyal — only team in the league that really took a chance on me. At the end of the day, I understand it's a business," Beverley stated according to the Houston Chronicle.
"I am nervous. I have to take the feeling out of it, the personal aspect out of it. It's a business. It's something I have never been through. I have never been a free agent before so I don't know the answer to give. But next November, I will be a lot more happy," he added.
But if Parsons succeeds, Beverley will join a Dallas squad already filled with point guards in Monta Ellis, José Juan Barea, Devin Harris, Rajon Rondo and Raymond Felton.
