Dallas Mavericks free agency rumors 2015: Great interest shown in JaVale McGee

The Dallas Mavericks are still in the hunt for a center after trading for Zaza Pachulia and are reportedly having contract talks with seven-year veteran big man JaVale McGee.

The Mavs are trying to bounce back after then free agent center DeAndre Jordan verbally committed to signing with the team only to back out of the agreement and re-sign with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Dallas recently traded for Pachulia who last played for the Milwaukee Bucks and is a proven veteran.

But Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is looking for more and told ESPN, "I think we need to get a center, obviously. Zaza can play; don't get me wrong. The guy can shoot. He can rebound, but it would be nice to have somebody who can play above the rim, so we're looking at some of our options there."

ESPN reported that the Mavericks already interviewed McGee over the weekend according to sources and both sides have a mutual interest.

Although an issue the Mavs might want to look at more is the 27-year-old's health. McGee has been plagued by injuries in previous years which limited him to only 28 games in three seasons.

But there is no doubt in McGee's defensive capability once healthy and that can surely help Dallas in its attempt for a deeper run in the playoffs next season.

In his career, McGee has played for the Washington Wizards and the Denver Nuggets before getting traded to the Philadelphia 76ers last season.

He played only six games for Philadelphia averaging 3.0 points and 2.2 rebounds in 10.2 minutes of action and was later waived last March 1.

The Mavericks are in dire need of a center after the departure of Tyson Chandler who joined the Phoenix Suns because of the pursuit of Jordan.

According to ESPN, former Mavericks center Samuel Dalembert will be having a private workout for the team Tuesday.

Other potential targets of Mavericks include free agents Tyler Hansbrough, Elton Brand, and Kevin Seraphin, ESPN reported.
