After several offers to fight in other different combat sports, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) superstar Conor Mcgregor made it clear that the only place he will step into for his next fight is the octagon.
"I think a true fight is what I want to do next," McGregor told entertainment website TMZ.
During one of the pressers for his mega fight with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, McGregor proclaimed that mixed martial arts is a true form of combat sport compared to boxing, telling Floyd that their bout is only "half a fight."
Although McGregor has made up his mind regarding his next appearance, the question remains: Who will face him in the ring? Tony Ferguson was the top candidate to fight McGregor on UFC 219, but plans for the bout were derailed after Ferguson was sidelined due to an elbow injury that required surgery early this month.
Meanwhile, rumors of a potential super fight between McGregor and former middleweight champion Georges St. Pierre has been shot down by UFC president Dana White.
White spoke during a recent media day and told reporters that there have been no talks of McGregor-St. Pierre ever taking place and Ferguson would still be McGregor's next opponent.
McGregor's last fight was at UFC 205 where he knocked out Eddie Alvarez in only two rounds to become the new lightweight champion. The win also made him the only fighter in UFC history to hold two belts in different divisions simultaneously.
If white is indeed targeting Ferguson for McGregor's next bout, that would mean fans would have to wait for a bit longer to see the fighting Irishman back in action as Ferguson would first have to be medically cleared to fight again.
If Ferguson does not get cleared right away, though, McGregor might want to think about boxing legend Manny Pacquiao's offer to fight him in another inter-promotional megabout.
