Publisher 2K of the game "Civilization VI" recently announced that the expansion of the game, dubbed the "Rise and Fall," would come by Feb. 8, 2018.

The expansion brings excitement to fans who have been scrambling for updates. "Civilization VI: Rise and Fall" will introduce the Great Ages, a new city loyalty system, which means that each city could remain faithful to one player, despite some revolts.

"As your civilization ebbs and flows, and you reach milestone Historic Moments, you will experience Dark Ages or Golden Ages, each providing specific challenges or bonuses based on your actions in-game. Rise triumphantly from a Dark Age, and your next Golden Age will be even stronger – a Heroic Age," the press release read.

Developer Firaxis' lead designer Anton Strenger also announced that the Great Ages system can bring the experience of building empires throughout history amidst threats and obstacles, which had helped shaped what humans have now.

Aside from this, the expansion will also bring nine new leaders and eight new civilizations. Of the leaders, the roster will include key women in the history as developers highlighted the importance of including them in the game. "Women are often underrepresented in traditional historical accounts, and recent scholarship has revealed more and more the fascinating and powerful women that lived between the lines of history textbooks," Strenger explained.

In addition to these, there are new units, buildings, and districts. Along with the announcement is a dramatic trailer. Strenger claimed the expansion could pose a challenge and a reward for players in guiding civilizations, a far cry from the rest of the franchise.
