The Chicago Bulls had a great 2014-15 season despite all the setbacks and one player who contributed big for the team, forward Taj Gibson, will be sidelined for four months after going through surgery.

Gibson went through arthroscopy and repair of the left ankle on Tuesday (June 16) which was performed by foot specialist Dr. David Porter in Indianapolis, the Bulls reported on their website.

The 29-year-old has been plagued by left ankle woes in the past seasons and last February said he was playing with a stage 2 ligament tear in his hand, ESPN reported.

Gibson also spoke about his left ankle issues in the same month saying according to ESPN, "That's never going to go away. Doctors told me that's going to go away after the season is done. But I said, 'Doc, whatever it takes, just bandage me up. I'm going to get my treatment and do what I can out there on the court. No excuses. Try to help my team any way I can.'"

The 26th overall pick by Chicago in the 2009 NBA Draft has improved since he joined the team although his numbers diminished a bit in the 2014-15 season.

Gibson was limited to only 62 games last season due to his injuries and was averaging 10.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.2 blocks.

Chicago finished at the third spot in the Eastern Conference with a 50-32 record last season and reached the second round of the playoffs only to be eliminated by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

After another unsuccessful campaign in the postseason, there were rumors that Gibson will be traded even though he still has two years in his pact with the Bulls.

But ESPN reported that trade rumors linked to Gibson may have been shut down following the report that he will be sidelined for four months due to the recent surgery.
