Reigning Premier League champion Chelsea completed their second signing of the summer with the addition of goalkeeper Asmir Begović who is coming from league rival Stoke City.

Begović headed to Stamford Bridge for a four-year deal reportedly worth £8 million.

The 28-year-old Bosnia-Herzegovina national is a huge addition for the Blues following the departure of Petr Cech who joined Arsenal via sale.

Begović will be using Cech's former number no. 1 and will look to challenge Thibaut Courtois for the starting nod although ESPN said in their report that he was inked mainly as a backup.

In a report by BBC Sports last month, Stoke City chief executive Tony Scholes shared that they hope to keep Begović in Britannia Stadium.

"He's away on holiday at the moment but we hope to sit down with him and his representatives again in the near future. It would be nice if we were able to sort something," Scholes told BBC Sports Radio.

In a tweet, Begović thanked Stoke City, the organization's front office, his teammates, and the fans for welcoming him and his family.

"I have loved my time at Stoke, but feel I had to take this opportunity to continue to develop and challenge myself as a player. I am very proud of what we have achieved during my time at Stoke, and it has been a great team of players to work with. I wish you all the best for the season ahead," the rest of the statement read.

Meanwhile Begović told Chelsea's website, "I am very happy to be joining Chelsea FC. After speaking at length to the manager, I feel like I can develop here and be an important part of this team. I am looking forward to meeting up with the team on Wednesday for the pre-season tour."
