The official trailer for "Captain America: Civil War" has launched online and the directors, Anthony and Joe Russo, recently sat down with Empire to elaborate on some of the more important easter eggs that audiences get a quick glimpse at.
The first important detail is the paper Captain America (Chris Evans) is seen being handed, labeled the Sokovia Accords. The Accords, as the Russo brothers explain, is a document that would allow the world governments to control the Avengers and other "enhanced" individuals.
It is further explained that the Accords were written due to the collateral damage caused in previous films such as the city of Sokovia falling from the sky in "Avengers: Age of Ultron," Washington DC nearly being hit by hellicarriers in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and the damage to New York in the first "Avengers" film.
The directors also explain that Iron Man is now a changed man and has a "guilty complex" instead of his usual "egomaniacal" standard. They further explain that he is now willing to accept the command of authority and may be reeling in of guilt after the events in "Avengers: Age of Ultron."
Other details in the trailer include the appearance of General Thunderbolt Ross (William Hurt). Although the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) will not be in the film, the General will be and will play a significant role against superheroes.
"We thought it would be interesting to take a character who had a fanatical anti-superhero point of view," the Russo brothers explain. "Now he's become much savvier and more political and has put himself in a position of power, not unlike a Colin Powell. He's cornering the Avengers politically now, he's out-maneuvering them."
Another quick detail discussed was the first glimpse of Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman). The directors explain that he has a very different reason for stepping into the conflict. His armor is also made of a special mesh of Vibranium, the strongest metal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"Captain America: Civil War" opens on May 6, 2016.
