The Boston Red Sox are currently at 33-43 and their struggles continued last week after losing second baseman Dustin Pedroia and left fielder Hanley Ramirez to injuries.

Pedroia was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain according to manager John Farrell Thursday.

"I've never pulled a muscle before. It's just kind of weird, right before I hit the bag, my foot kind of slipped out and I hit the bag with my left foot. I tried to recover and stop. So I slipped, basically," the 31-year-old said following an 8-6 loss to the Baltimore Orioles Thursday according to ESPN.

Injuries cannot be prevented according to Pedroia and said it is tough but he believes his Red Sox teammates will be able to fill in the void he leaves.

"Deal with it the best you can. Can't dwell on it. It's part of the game, I guess. You guys know me, I'll be back as fast as I can," Pedroia also said.

Meanwhile, Farrell hopes the 2008 AL MVP does not stay on the disabled list for more than 15 days altough in a report by ESPN, he did not give specific information regarding the injury and also did not provide a timetable for Pedroia's return.

"He's the heart and soul of our team, in the short description of it. The way he plays, what he means in the clubhouse, what he means on the field with his performance, probably having a career year to date, hopefully this is on the shorter end of the time missed," Farrell stated according to ESPN.

"In other words, after the 15 days hopefully he comes back to us, but there's no projected date on his return. He'll be back as soon as he's capable," he added.

In other injury news, a line drive hit from teammate shortstop Xander Bogaerts injured Ramirez's left wrist while heading for second base on a hit-and-run play in the fifth inning of a 5-1 loss to the Orioles Wednesday, ESPN reported.

ESPN added that Ramirez feared that he may have sustained a broken wrist but according to Farrell X-rays and a CT scan came back negative.

"It's going to be day to day. Treatment, ice," the 31-year-old said.
