The fifth and final season of "Boardwalk Empire," composed of eight episodes, premiered early last September and it will be concluding on Oct. 26.
With four episodes already aired, fans have noticed that main cast members Anthony Laciura, Ron Livingston and Michael Stuhlbarg are out of the series. Meanwhile, Ben Rosenfield has become a regular for the show after returning in the last season.
The fifth season of the American period crime drama TV series is set in the 1930s with which flashbacks of the childhood experiences of Enoch "Nucky" Thompson (Steve Buscemi) are being shown in detail.
The last episode, entitled "Cuanto" and directed by Jake Paltrow, had drawn attention to Nucky's youth. His younger counterpart was played by Marc Pickering and the boy Nucky, with his dreams of wealth and privilege, was pulled back to reality as tourists left the Boardwalk and he got fired from his cleaning job.
The Commodore, portrayed by John Ellison Conlee, was shown to have somehow toughened up the child. Nucky had also been telling his brother Eli to grow up fast and keep up with the world to avoid further going into poverty.
As the siblings broke into a hotel, Sheriff Lindsay (Boris McGiver) spotted the boys but took pity and invited Nucky over for dinner. A scene relating to such incident implies how Nucky's character not only sought status and material wealth but, more importantly, learning about the gentler things in life, including an ideal family.
Meanwhile, in current settings, Nucky and Margaret (Kelly McDonald) reunite to address legal problems and the threats imposed by Arnold Rothstein's widow. Luciano (Vincent Piazza) also ventures out to Chicago to meet up with Capone (Stephen Graham) and unexpectedly bumps into an old rival.
Joseph Kennedy (Matt Letscher) withdraws from his rum agreement with Nucky, whereas Cuban officers had put a stop to Sally (Patricia Arquette), who struggled with the authorities and had been accidentally killed by one of the guards by a gunshot.
