'The Big Bang Theory' season 9 spoilers: Leonard and Penny's wedding only the beginning

Leonard and Penny CBS

"The Big Bang Theory" showrunner Steve Molaro revealed that Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting) will indeed tie the knot in the season 9 premiere, but he also hinted that the wedding is just the beginning of their plans for the rest of the show.

"That's really only the beginning of the story," he explained in a report from TVLine. "Penny has had commitment issues for years and years now, especially when it comes to Leonard, and even she feels, 'How much longer are we going to go back and forth on this? Let's just jump in and hope for the best.'"

Molaro also stated that the decision to wed Penny and Leonard was partly because the show has hit its ninth year and this would help keep things fresh and different. However, just because the two are getting married doesn't mean that it will be smooth sailing there on out.

The report says that Mandy (Melissa Tang), the girl Leonard kissed during a previous expedition, will be popping up and she may be responsible for ruining the couple's honeymoon.

Leonard and Penny getting married will also significantly affect Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons), Leonard's roommate for roughly a decade or more. In previous episodes and on several occasions, Sheldon had shown his reluctance in seeing Leonard live with Penny.

To make matters even more complicated, Sheldon is currently at a loss with regard to his relationship to Amy (Mayim Bialik) who broke up with him right before he could reveal an engagement ring and properly propose to her. A separate report does not indicate if Amy and Sheldon will get back together, but the latter will attempt to unravel how much time Amy needs to be alone in order to think things through.

"The Big Bang Theory" season 9 premieres this Sept. 21.
