"Better Call Saul" creator Vince Gilligan has outlined his plans for season 3 of the hit Netflix series. The plans include possible "Breaking Bad" cameos and Jimmy transforming into the man he was always meant to become..
Gilligan has hinted that Gustavo Fring, played by Giancarlo Esposito, may be further referenced and eventually appear in "Better Call Saul" season 3. The restaurant owner slash mafia boss made his presence felt in the season 2 finale, where he left a note on Mike's windshield.
"Better Call Saul" fans also knew he was coming after realizing that the first letters of the episode titles of season 2 spelled "FringsBack." Although impressed with fans, Gilligan warns them not to expect Fring to appear in "Better Call Saul" season 3 right away.
Gilligan confirmed to Vanity Fair that the drug kingpin is indeed back "technically speaking, if not literally," but that doesn't mean he will be appear at the beginning of the season.
The show co-creator explains that Fring being "circumspect" won't reveal himself easily and would rather have someone go through hell and back before he agrees to show his face to them. That being said, "Better Call Saul" season 3 may not see Fring in the flesh, or at least not yet.
"I don't think anyone should assume that he'll move in next door to Mike and borrow a cup of sugar. He's going to stay Gus Fring, arguably the most brilliant person ever to appear on either show," Gilligan added.
Show co-creator Peter Gould said the same in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, describing Fring as someone "not easy to access" and "not so easy to get to see."
As for Jimmy's inevitable downward spiral, "Better Call Saul" season 3 will attempt to find the answer to the question of where his respect for his brother Chuck, who betrayed him after he admitted to forging his Mesa Verde papers, will run out.
