"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" was originally set for release this summer but Warner Bros. changed the release date twice to its current one. The clash of the DC Comics' biggest superheroes was supposed to happen on July 17 this year but was moved to May next year. The release date was again changed to the current schedule of March 2016.
The company has finally opened up about the change of plans.
The fickleness was prompted by Marvel assigning what was then an unnamed movie — which turned out to be "Captain America: Civil War" — around May. Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara admitted to The Hollywood Reporter that "it was a tough decision at the time because it was going to create a hole in 2015."
"But it was absolutely the right decision for the franchise, for DC and the movie," Tsujihara explained. "Having seen the movie multiple times, and again last night, I'm extremely confident it was the right decision to make the movie better. And it's so important for the studio to get the foundation right on DC."
"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is the second film in the extended DC universe, with the first one, "Man of Steel," released last year. Warner has quite a lineup ready for years to come with "Suicide Squad" to be shown in August next year, and a couple of "Justice League" flicks in the offing.
Warner is also working on films for Wonder Woman, Aquaman and The Flash. In addition, it was previously reported that Ben Affleck's Batman and his stellar performance as the hero is getting more films centered on him, too, with Affleck himself at the helm.
"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is set to hit the silver screen on March 25, 2016.
