Despite "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" garnering mediocre reviews, the common consensus is that Ben Affleck was one of the best parts of the film, where he portrayed Bruce Wayne aka Batman. The Hollywood Reporter now gives further insight into his future in the role, including a revelation regarding the solo "Batman" movie.
According to William Morris Endeavor co-CEO Patrick Whiteshell, who represents Affleck as his agent, Affleck is signed on for three DCEU films, one of which is the recently released "Batman v Superman." The other two films Affleck is signed on to reprise his role are "Justice League: Part One" and "Justice League Part Two."
This does not count his appearance in "Suicide Squad" given that it is merely a short cameo.
Whiteshell also revealed that although Affleck is not yet contracted to direct and star in a solo "Batman" movie, that doesn't mean the actor isn't proactively pushing the idea forward with the executives of Warner Bros. Pictures. Whiteshell revealed that a script for a potential film has been written and that it was done by Affleck.
"He's contracted to do at least 'Justice League One' and 'Two,' so at least three times wearing the cape," said Whiteshell before adding in a quick hint, "there's a script that he's written that is a really cool 'Batman' idea, so that's out there as an option."
Warner Bros. Pictures has yet to confirm if it will even look into the script. At the time being, there is no solo "Batman" film included in the current schedule for DCEU films until 2020 but this may change given how popular the character is and how well Ben Affleck's portrayal was.
There is also the fact that Affleck won the Academy Award for penning the script for "Good Will Hunting" and he also wrote and directed "Argo," which won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2012, and this may entice Warner Bros. Pictures to consider whatever material he presents to them.
