More Motorola handsets are making the jump to the latest version of Android Lollipop available. Last week, the original Moto X in select regions was updated to Android 5.1 Lollipop and was shortly followed by its 2014 version. Now, the Moto X Pure Edition is the next one up for a Lollipop update.

David Schuster, Senior Director of Software Product Management at Motorola, announced via Google Plus that the update is all set to roll out and that the Lenovo-owned company has now been "approved to start full deployment of the Android 5.1 Lollipop" for the handset in the United States.

The Pure Edition is the unbranded and unlocked version of the second-generation Moto X. The update for the handset is 440 MB in size and when successfully installed, it will update the device to 23.16.3.

Android 5.1 Lollipop offers modifications that improve the overall stability and performance of the handset. The software notably gives users superior control over their notifications with the dawn of the new Interruptions feature. This added feature lets users choose which notification pop-ups are a priority by segregating those that are deemed important and those that won't "interrupt" them, thus the name. Users can also swipe the notification off the screen when they do not want to view it when it shows up.

There are now dedicated drop-down menus called Quick Settings for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, which will ultimately save time from navigating just to check for Wi-Fi access points or paired Bluetooth devices.

Android 5.1 Lollipop enhances the Android Runtime so owners can expect apps to launch faster with less to no lags or freezes. On the security aspect, users will get what's called Device Protection, which is most useful when the Moto X Pure Edition gets lost or stolen. This feature will lock the device until the Google account registered on the phone is accessed.
