Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update rolls out for Sony Xperia Z3, Z2

Just days after Sony announced the coming of the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to its entire Xperia Z2 and Z3 lineup, the up-to-date build of the mobile operating system started rolling out to the Japanese tech firm's 1- and 2-year-old smartphone series.

This means that the loyal users who own the Sony Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, and Xperia Z2 Tablet are all getting the Lollipop update. The update, however, will not roll out in one fell swoop.

The firmware is unleashed over the air, which means it will likely come out in phases. Nevertheless, a notification pop-up should not take long to arrive. Users just need to keep their eyes peeled.

Those who want to check if the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is already available for their Sony Xperia Z2 or Z3 handsets can simply head to Settings > About device > Software update > Update.

Phone Arena says that the arrival of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to the Xperia Z2 and Z3 units will depend on the users' network providers. The region a user is in is also a contributing factor to the immediate or late arrival of the software.

With Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on board, users will enjoy a much better camera as well as improvements on customization. There is also a small LinkedIn feature as well as SmartWear support, which sets up the Sony Smartwatch 3 as a remote shutter button for the camera.

When Sony is done with dolling up the lineups, next to board the Lollipop train are the Sony Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact, and Xperia Z Ultra. Sony says this upgrade will happen in the "coming weeks." After that, older devices such as the Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia C3 and the original Xperia Z series will follow. The Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Aqua aren't far behind.
