A Xiaomi device, believed to be the Redmi Note 2, made a stop at Chinese certification agency TENAA recently with new images and details about its specifications. This convinces media outlets that the company will show the new device soon.
The details picked up from TENAA shows that the alleged Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 is smaller than its predecessor, which GSM Arena thinks is possible because of the smartphone's slimmer bezels. While the display remains at 5.5 inches, the device is thinner and less wide by and large, with its dimensions set at 152.05 x 76.2 x 8.05 mm, smaller compared to its predecessor's 154 x 78.7 x 9.45 mm dimensions.
Apart from this change, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 is different from its predecessor, at least based on what is seen on the device's front. It remains to be seen if the Chinese company also made changes on the back of the new Note, which, unfortunately, wasn't shown in the leak.
Another takeaway from the leak is that the device will pack a 3020 mAh battery unit, which is also smaller than the original. Maybe a tweak under the hood will keep the battery life on par or better than the original Redmi Note.
According to GSM Arena, TENAA showed off two versions of the smartphone. The first one has the necessary support for China Mobile while the second one seems to be fashioned for China Unicom and will serve as the international variant, but China Telecom was absent from the list.
Previous reports claim the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 will house either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor or a MediaTek MT6795 chipset. The screen resolution is said to be at 1080p, the RAM at 1 GB, and the storage at 16 GB. It is also expected to don a metal chassis.
