As every new month comes in, players who subscribe to Microsoft's Xbox Live Gold premium service are treated to new free games that are downloadable as part of the Games with Gold programme.

And, as August is here, the next set of free games has been announced. Major Nelson carries an article that neatly lists the four new games available for free download this month. Two of these are on Xbox One and the two other games are on Xbox 360.

Owing to the backwards compatibility update in November 2015, the two Xbox 360 titles can be played on Xbox One. This means that gamers who own the latest Microsoft console can effectively enjoy all the four games for free.

The Xbox One free releases include WarriorsOrochi3 Ultimate, which is available this August, and WWE 2K16, which can be downloaded for free from the 16th of August to the 15th of September. The former is normally available at $59.99 in the retail market, and the latter at $39.99.

As for the Xbox 360 games, "Spelunky" will be available for free from the 1st of August to the 15th of August, and the HD version of "Beyond Good & Evil" can be accessed from the 16th to the 31st of August. "Spelunky" comes at a retail price of $19.99, and the second game is usually priced at $14.99.

Mirror Online gives us more great news with a reminder that the games continue to remain yours even after you've ended your Xbox Live Gold subscription. As for the upcoming free releases, the "2K16," as Game Rant points out, is the biggest surprise in the package. Considering it is one of the mainstream titles, the inclusion of this game as part of the Games With Gold package was an unexpected but welcome offer.
