James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender reportedly signing on for more X-Men films

"X-Men: Apocalypse" marks the end of the contract for several "X-Men" stars such as Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Michael Fassbender, and James McAvoy, but whereas Lawrence is still not sure of coming back, McAvoy and Fassbender have allegedly signed on for future films.

According to a report from Heroic Hollywood, both McAvoy and Fassbender are currently signing on for a new deal with 20th Century Fox to reprise their roles as Charles Xavier aka Professor X and Erik Lehnsherr aka Magneto, respectively.

The report also cites Fassbender's response during an MTV interview where he stated he may still come back for more films in the franchise if the studios decide to sign them on, stating, "Always interested in moving forward."

Neither 20th Century Fox nor the two actors has confirmed this rumor but given that "X-Men: Apocalypse" ends the trilogy that started with "X-Men: First Class" while also starting a new series at the same time — one that focuses on the early years of Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm — then it only makes sense to bring the two back on.

Hoult has also expressed interest in returning as Hank McCoy aka Beast but there have been no final announcements regarding his return. The actor was most recently seen as the character Nux in George Miller's "Mad Max: Fury Road."

Lawrence has been a little less sure about her place in the franchise. In a previous interview, she stated that she was done with the "X-Men" films, stating that "X-Men: Apocalypse" would be her last film, but more recently has opened up about coming back if the studios invite her and if she likes the direction they intend to go with her character.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" opens in theaters on May 27, 2016.
